BROOKFIELD BOG CHALLENGE
SUNDAY 14 NOVEMBER  2010

The June event was such a success that we have decided to do another one on 14 November 2010. We expect this to be a crowd pleaser so suggest that you get an entry in sharpish. Online entry opens 1 August.

Watch the Jolly Bog Trotters on You Tube doing a trial run, just to get you into the mood!!

When we were little tinkers some mud and water was all we needed for a good time. As we get older it is not cool to get muddy and wet that's where the Brookfield Bog Challenge comes in.

We all deserve to regress back to our childhood so Capital Multisports has introduced a nice wet and muddy challenge, just for adults to have some fun, but because they have done some work there is no guilt involved.

The event is at Brookfield Scout Centre over in Wainuiomata. A great facility that has accommodation for those who want to stay overnight.

NEW FOR NOVEMBER
1/. Three distances, Adventure Wellington four kms, Adventure Wellington eight kms  or Team Resol twelve kms that's basically one, two or three laps. This time we have lengthened the course along the fire break to spread the field out.
2/.  Let the kids get dirty with a kids kilometre.  A bit of the stream, some obstacles, some more water then a bit of crawling. They'll love it.
3/.  This time each competitor will receive a promotional back pack, with Shoe Clinic Voucher, number, drink and fruit in. Eat and drink then use the bag for your dirty gear.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Starting on the park road I remember we did a quick (ish) run or was it a walk up the park road, across, well through the ditch, hit the tyre steps, left, right, left, right. Now a nice flat run, wish I could stop walking like I'm treading the tyres, here's the  river bed, shame about the ankle,  nope got that wrong knee deep water.  Through the overflow pipe under the bridge. After that out of the stream just to go through the obstacle course, up and over with a bit of under,  was it a waiver I signed or a Commando application form, then through the bush, for me more walking than running. But the bush track is very pretty. Here's the hill I was told about, nice and steep, top of the hill I'm far too knackered to enjoy the view  across the valley, in fact is there less oxygen up here or am I really unfit, probably less oxygen (yeah right) never mind perhaps next year I'll be fitter. Is that a sausage sizzle I can smell? Now down towards the amphitheater, over the fallen tree, (didn't know trees were that tall when lying down), across the bridge. Hey ho, here's one of them wire thingies across the stream, not done this before, don't look  down, get a  grip it's only  4 feet up. Off the wires and back into the stream. More wet water, under the bridge and oh poo, the water is getting a bit  deeper, in fact it's  nearly chest deep.  Once round the island and out onto Terra Firma, then under the cargo net crawl, a good excuse to lie down on the job, just wish that little old lady behind would stop telling me  to go faster. Onto the road for a little jog to the finish line, unless of course you are in for a challenge and have signed up to go again and again. Through the orchard and there it is the finish, under the gantry, YES, easy peasy, bring it on, a walk in the park. Where's that beer and sausage sizzle.

EVENT DETAILS.

Location.
The event is based at the Brookfield Scout Camp which you find when you drive through Wainuiomata and head towards the Coast Road. When you leave Wainuiomata you go through a residential area then hit a small group of shops just at the top of a very small rise, take the left turn and follow it till the end of the road and you will come to the Brookfield complex.

There are showers and toilets on site. The Scoiuts will be selling hot food and drink which you may need. There is the possibility of overnight lodging for those who do not want to trek home or are living out of Town. The cost and booking arrangements will be posted on sight in the near future.

Start.
Start times will be from 10 am.

What to expect.
You will get wet and muddy. So bring dry/warm clothing to change into after the event. Showers are available so soap and towel will be needed. Consider what you are to wear during the event, long socks or trackster bottoms to give your lower legs some protection may be a good idea, check out the Shoe Clinic what to wear page by clicking on this link. You will be wading and crawling through mud so make sure you have covered all open wounds with waterproof plasters. To our right Mike is a bit extreme but it could happen to you. The stream beds are natural with uneven surfaces and stone bottoms. Depth varies from ankle to knee deep.

Entries/Late Entries.
Online entry is available from 1st August on the Race Entry Page. For those wanting to use a paper entry an entry form can be downloaded at the bottom of the Race Entry Page. All online entries will be confirmed by email. For postal entries debit from your bank account of the race entry fee will be confirmation of entry.
We will accept late entries at registration on the Saturday but we expect the event to fill quite quickly so it would be advised to enter early to avoid disappointment.

Registration.
Registration/collection of numbers/bag will be at the Petone Workingmen's Club from 1:00 pm and will close at 3:00 pm.

Race refunds
Refunds before 31 October May will be subject to a $10 administration fee, after 30 May refunds will only be given on production of a doctors certificate.

Water and Aid stations
Water will be available at every 4km, this is when you leave the pond.

Prizegiving
Prizegiving will be held onsite as soon as the last person finishes. Race numbers will be needed to collect prizes.

Parking and Personal Kit
There is some parking on site. However it would be helpful if athletes could arrange to travel to the event together by car sharing where possible. There will not be any secure storage for kit so try to arrange for someone to hold it for you.
